چکیده

We experimentally analyze the performance of a laser communication link using spatial diversity. For various system settings we quantify the cross-correlation between received signals and establish key elements in the design of efficient multiple-transmitter links. ©2010 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.2605) Free-space optical communication; (010.3310) Laser beam transmission.

Atmospheric turbulence mitigation in an OAM-based MIMO free-space optical link using spatial diversity combined with MIMO equalization.

We explore the mitigation of atmospheric turbulence effects for orbital angular momentum (OAM)-based free-space optical (FSO) communications with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) architecture. Such a system employs multiple spatially separated aperture elements at the transmitter/receiver, and each transmitter aperture contains multiplexed data-carrying OAM beams. We propose to use spatial...

Performance Analysis of FSO System with Spatial Diversity and Relays for M-QAM over Log-Normal Channel

The performance analysis of free space optical communication (FSO) systems using relays and spatial diversity at the transmitter end is presented in this paper. The impact of atmospheric turbulence and attenuation caused by different weather conditions and geometric losses has also been taken into account. The effect of turbulence is modeled over a log-normal probability density function. We pr...

Mobile free space optic nodes in single-input multiple-output setup under transmitter misalignment

Wireless optical nodes with mobility capabilities (mobile free space optics [FSO]) have emerged as a way to overcome limitations inherent in FSO links, for example, transmitter–receiver restrictive alignment requirement. This paper proposes the use of an angular diversity model for characterizing the performance of mobile FSO over atmospheric turbulence, and transmitter–receiver misalignment sw...

Propagation Characteristics and Availability Performance Assessment for Simulated Terrestrial Hybrid 850 nm/58 GHz System

Results of a propagation study on a free space optical link at 850 nm on a path 853 meters long and on a parallel 58 GHz radio link obtained over a 3-year period of observation are presented. The cumulative distributions of attenuation due to all of the hydrometeors combined as well as due to individual hydrometeors were obtained for both paths. The availability performances of the FSO link, th...

Spatial-Mode Diversity and Multiplexing for FSO Communication with Direct Detection

This work investigates spatial-mode multiplexing (SMM) for practical free-space optical communication (FSO) systems using direct detection. Unlike several works in the literature where mutually incoherent channels are assumed, we consider mutually coherent channels that accurately describe SMM FSO systems employing a single laser source at the transmitter with a narrow linewidth. We develop an ...
